An overall idea or theme may be present in my paintings yet this is not important to me. The sometimes drawn out or sometimes spontaneous juxtaposition of colour, shape, form and space, although interesting, is not what gives me the driving force. I paint to paint, working in and out of the painting, at times to abandon oneself to the transitional creative process, looking to the feedback, picking up on the harmony or disharmony, the aesthetic and unaesthetic, allowing this feedback its own freedom as it were and moving in a one to one connecting relationship with the work.

John was born in 1948, Newcastle upon Tyne, England. He studied fine art at Ashington College and University of Northumbria, Newcastle upon Tyne. He has experience in Sculpture, Print, Etching, and Bronze with his main discipline in Painting. John has studied Art History over many years and his main interest lies in the philosophical theory of art. He has exhibited widely over many years and his work is held by many private collectors world wide. John has travelled widely in Central America, Northern America, India and Europe and is currently living in Portugal and has taken part in numerous individual and collective exhibitions. His recent exposition was in November 2007, at Galeria de Arte Convento Espírito Santo, in Loulé.

Apesar de, na minha pintura, poder estar presente uma ideia ou um tema geral isso não assume uma importância relevante. As justaposições - espontâneas ou propositadas - de cores, formas ou espaços, embora interessantes, não são a minha força impulsionadora. Eu pinto por pintar. O acto de pintar tem em mim algo de inconstante, acontecendo por vezes um abandono ao processo criativo de transição, absorvendo a harmonia e a desarmonia, o estético e o inestético. Esta dualidade facilita a liberdade do retrocesso, permitindo uma relação frontal e igualitária entre o pintor e a obra.

John Lamonby nasceu em Newcastle upon Tyne, Inglaterra, em 1948. Estudou Belas Artes no Ashington College e na University of Northumbria, em Newcastle upon Tyne. Adquiriu experiência em Escultura, Gravura e Bronze, em simultâneo com Pintura, a sua principal actividade. Estudou, durante muitos anos, História da Arte mas o seu principal interesse centra-se na teoria filosófica da arte. Fez inúmeras exposições ao longo de muitos anos integrando as suas obras em colecções privadas espalhadas por todo o mundo. John viajou pela América Central, América do Norte, Índia e Europa. Vive actualmente em Portugal, tendo participado em numerosas exposições individuais e colectivas. A sua última exposição foi em Novembro de 2007, na Galeria de Arte Convento Espírito Santo, em Loulé.
