Kerstin Wagner bases her approach to art on Yin and Yang, the two complementary principles of Chinese philosophy. Yin is negative, dark and feminine, Yang positive, bright and masculine. Their interaction is thought to maintain the harmony of the universe and to influence everything within it. Her own interpretation of this inter relationship has resulted in an absorbing series of canvases that when placed together do indeed convoy a distinct double meaning, movement against stillness, calm against chaos, darkness against lightness. Consequently, her work shines with a colour and vibrancy that reflects the culture surrounding her. Recently however she created a new dimension to her style by adding a graphical element to her work. The latest series of paintings, known as "Letters 4 You", incorporate letters of intuitive writings in a very free-flowing shorthand application. The canvases are also much smaller and the effect tends to focus the eye more discriminately.
